QuaranTOONS!

Pardon my scruffy little friend; he got over excited about my big new website launch! A brand new website; still tweaking it a bit, but a new home for sure! Welcome; and for my first post I wanted to share what I’ve been doing during the self isolation we are all experiencing. With schools closed and students learning at home through e-learning or home schooling, I wanted to offer an arts activity that could be enjoyed by young students, mostly ages 6-12; and so every weekday I’ve been uploading a new “QuaranTOONs” video to my YouTube channel. Each one is simply a “Drawing Cartoons with Dave McDonald” video; where I guide the viewer along as we draw a monster, a space girl or some silly critter together! If you pay close attention, you may even discover me drawing a top secret character who just might end up in new book somewhere down the road- so keep your eyes peeled! I use simple shapes as guidelines for most of my characters, so it is pretty easy to follow along. I talk a lot about PERSONIFICATION, that is, giving human qualities to things that aren’t human- it’s a ton of fun!!! Oh- and in the videos, I typically give a shout out to former students, schools where I’ve taught and sometimes even show off student comics! So feel free to contact me to share how you use these videos in the class or- have a teacher or another adult share a comic with me- you never know- maybe you’ll get a shout out!
